HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED AND BE MORE PRODUCTIVE WHILE WORKING FROM HOME
Many of the working people have work from home in this pandemic. And most of the time, work from home seems nice until your mom asks you to help you with some household chores in between working hours or when the children in your home become loud or when you just can’t concentrate on working because you are looking longingly at your bed. I know that it seems nice to work in your PJs but even some experiments have suggested that work from home can be a double-edged sword. If done rightly, it can be as efficient and productive as work from the office but if done wrongly working from home might prove to be less productive. Today, I am going to share some tips on how you should handle all the difficulties you face while working.
SEPARATE WORK FROM HOME

HOW TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE WHILE WORKING FROM HOME

Though it is work from home, you should learn to separate them from each other. Create a work station (even if it’s a small desk) so that you will have a workplace to go to. Keep your work station as clean and as professional as you had in the office. Doing this will give you the feeling that you are in your office and you will be able to be more professional and productive. You will be more alert and organized that way. Working on a chair is a must while working from home. You won’t feel sleepy or cozy on a chair. It will help you become more professional.
Close the door of the room you have built your work station in. Closing the door will make your family take your office hours seriously and they won’t disturb you unnecessarily.

START YOUR DAY EARLY AND PROPERLY
Just because you are working from home, don’t wake up at 8:57am and sit at your work-station at 9:00am. Try to start your day as early as you used to when you were working from the office. Do some physical exercise before starting your day. It will relax your mind and you will be able to start your day with a positive attitude. Have a healthy breakfast, this will stop your stomach from growling while working and you will be able to give your work your full concentration and do your work efficiently.
Starting your day properly will also save you from feeling lazy and sleepy the whole day. The more you lie on the bed the more you will want to. Remember that a negative attitude is the cause of most of the problems and a positive attitude is a solution to almost all of them.
TIME MANAGEMENT
While working from home, you must make a schedule and follow it ardently. Just because you are working from home and don’t have to leave the office at the end of the day, don’t let yourself get trapped in some housework or fun-time with family in between of working hours(unless it’s an emergency), don’t let yourself get distracted with social media, and wait till the last day of the deadline to finish a project. If you procrastinate then you will have to work after office hours or even pull all-nighters to finish your work which will slowly diminish your morale and professionalism and also deteriorate your health. If possible, finish your work in advance so that you will be able to spend time with your family and enjoy your personal time without any workload and stress. Separate your office time from your personal time. Doing that will make it easier for you to maintain your professionalism.
PLAN YOUR WORKDAY AND WORKFLOW IN ADVANCE
Just as we used to do in school times, we should plan our next day in advance while working from home too. Planning your work day in advance will help you with having an idea about which task should be your top priority and how long should it take you to finish a certain task. This will keep you up to speed with your task and you will know when you are taking longer than the allotted time. It will make your day more productive.
KEEP SOCIALIZING WITH YOUR COLLEAGUES
Try to have regular conversations with your colleagues that will help you with staying in the loop. You should not lose the relationship you have built-in all these years with your colleagues just because you are working from home now. A healthy relationship with colleagues promises a productive work environment.
TAKE BREAKS
Don’t stay at your work station for the whole day. In the early days, I didn’t use to get up from my chair, thinking I will lose my motivation and workflow but later I realized that I am taking more time to finish a task then I used to take while I was in office and I started to get back pain as a bonus. And so, I tried to make my workday as similar as I used to have while I was working from the office. I took a clear break and my efficiency came back.
So, my suggestion for you will be to take clear breaks, at least one, to get fresh air, healthy snacks and stretch your legs, etc. These breaks will relax your mind and you will be able to focus on your work with more concentration and you will be able to stay on task when working from home.
LEARN NEW SKILLS
Every day we see videos on Instagram of our favorite celebrities learning a new skill while they were in lockdown or our friends share with us the details of the online class, he/she is taking. Work from home has made it easier to have some “me” time, even for people who are working full-time.
Working from home saves the time working people used to spend on daily commutes from home to office and from office to home. Use that time to learn a new skill, something you are passionate about and have always wanted to learn but never got around to it due to busy office hours or take some online classes which will help you get better in your career.
DISTRACTION OF ANY KIND IS WRONG
Work from home comes with many kinds of distractions – family, mobile, social media, ever-present bed, etc. Most of the time we fall prey to the mantra of ‘just one minute more’ and before we notice, that one minute has turned into few hours and we have already lost the motivation to keep working. Try to remember that your phone and those funny videos are going to be there even after you have finished your work. So, please try not to get distracted by these things.
Use technology to your advantages like staying in touch with your colleagues and family you haven’t been able to meet since the starting of the year because of the pandemic we are facing but not let it come in between your career and you.
COMMUNICATE ABOUT YOUR WORKLOAD
It’s better to communicate about your working hours and your workload with the people you are living with, whether it’s your family or roommate, rather than let them unknowingly harm your work or professional life in any way.
Initially, when I got work from home, I was uncomfortable telling my family (especially my parents) that they are disturbing me but when it started to affect my work and I had to communicate with them about the problems I am facing. And, what do you know? It was nothing to feel uncomfortable about. They just stopped coming into my room when I was working and I was able to have a better work-life balance.
START ON TIME AND FINISH ON TIME
The way to be more productive while working from home is to have a proper balance between personal and professional life. Neither should harm the other one. Now that we are working from home and don’t have to go home at the end of the day, it often happens, especially with workaholics, we extend our office hours and keep working long after the working hours.
Doing this will harm your personal life and a sad personal life will only harm your productivity in long run. You should only give the fixed hour to your professional life (unless it’s an emergency) and use the remaining hour to learn a new skill, relax with your family, stay in the loop with the latest news, movies, and shows, and most importantly take some time for yourself and just relax without any stress.
TRY TO MAKE YOUR WORK HOURS MORE FUN
So, I would suggest you make a playlist which will keep you motivated during the day and listen to it while working.
CONCLUDING SECTION
In short, I am asking you to make your day while working at home similar to when you were working from the office. You can always add some changes but only when it won’t harm your productivity. And as I suggested, try to have a positive attitude towards everything, and don’t ever forget to take some time for only yourself. If you aren’t relaxed and positive then you won’t be able to be more productive no matter how many tips, I share with you.
